I don’t know about you, but I love side hustling. From selling t-shirts to freelancing, I’ve done it all. In my opinion, everyone needs a side hustle. For some reason, not everybody thinks like that. People come up with “reasons” why they don’t have one all the time. They say that they don’t know what to do or they figure they don’t have enough time to be successful at a side hustle. You have to change that way of thinking. You may be wondering why you should have a side hustle in the first place. Today, I go over six reasons why you should have one.
The first reason why you should have a side hustle is that side hustling will allow you to make more money. Having more money will allow you to put some of that in an emergency fund. Emergencies happen all the time. Your heat or air could go out in your home, or your car could need some work. According to The Motley Fool, 75% of households making less than $50,000 couldn’t pay a $1,000 emergency expense. That’s not good at all. I used to be in that boat a few years ago. Side hustling helped me get my emergency fund to a decent amount.
Helps Pay Bills
After college, I struggled for a few years. I worked a couple of low paying jobs. During this time I didn’t make enough to cover all of my bills. I was late on a few of them. The struggle was very real. When I started side hustling, I was able to bring in more money, which in turn went to the bills. Within a couple of months, I was able to get caught up on everything. It’s a great feeling when you know that you have more than enough money to pay all of your bills on time.
As you continue to build your skills, you will begin to get very good at them. Your side hustle can become a new career for you. If you do something well, people will pay you for it. I have a few friends who left their full-time jobs because their side hustles make more than enough money. If you don’t want to work for yourself, your side hustles can be leveraged into a different position or a different job.
Having a side hustle allows you to help people out more. Since I’ve started side hustling, I’ve been able to help people out more. Whether it’s donating to a cause or buying Girl Scout cookies for a fundraiser, the side hustle income has allowed me to do more. In the past, that wasn’t the case.
Having a side hustle builds skills. Some of you reading this may be asking how that can happen. Doing side hustles will help you develop skills such as building a website, digital marketing, learning how to negotiate, Photoshop design and building a social media following. Those skills will allow you to make more money.
Peace of Mind
The final reason that you should have a side hustle is very important. It provides you with a peace of mind. Most people have had some sort of money issue in the past. I’m not going to lie; side hustles have helped me minimize those issues. I used to stress a lot about money. I thought that a job was the only way to make it. I’m so glad I was wrong. Side hustles have allowed me to sleep much better at night. I know that it will do the same for you. If you’ve been on the fence about side hustling, it’s time for you to find one. You don’t have time to waste. There is a lot of money out there. You just have to get it.
